• Interested in sailing? There's now a shop on 10th Avenue between A.R. Salas and Calle 1 (and just across the street from our favorite dive shop, Caballito del Caribe). Give sailing a try and let us know how you like it!
• A new Irish Pub, Scruffy's, is located on A.R. Salas just off of 10th Avenue, offering both food and drink. We didn't get a chance to visit this new spot, so let us know what you think.
• Acuario, located on the oceanfront, next to Lobster's Cove, has been remodeled and now offers outdoor seating along the oceanfront boulevard. We ate at Acuario for the first time this trip. The Camarones Estilo Acuario (shrimp Acuario style), was tasty and flamboyantly prepared tableside by our waiter. The huge shellfish were prepared flambe style with white wine, brandy, fresh oranges and garlic. Service was excellent, prices moderately high.
• A new supermarket is getting close to completion. This one is located just across from the Plaza Las Glorias Hotel and will be larger than the two San Francisco supermarkets.
• Hurricane Mitch. We've had a number of people wondering about damage in Cozumel, Akumal, Xcalak area. We are happy to report that we experienced no damage at all, though we feel bad for our friends to the south where many lives and much property was lost.
• Cozumel is in the same time zone as Central Standard Time at this time, but may revert to daylight savings time in the spring (depending on what Mexico City does).
• Our Casablanca, Villa Selva and Casa Roo are fully air conditioned now. We just installed new drapes/curtains during our trip in November.

A New Diver

During our recent stay in Cozumel, our 14-year-old son, Justin, became a certified scuba diver. The instructor, Ricardo Garcia (pictured at left), at Caballito del Caribe took him under his wing. Ricardo offered professional guidance to make Justin comfortable and knowledgeable in the water.

Justin was able to log nine dives and loved the reefs and the fishlife; he especially liked the octopus. He enjoyed the experience at Palancar Gardens with the swim-throughs and the abundant coral. The folks at Caballito are very responsible and trustworthy and took very good care of our son as they do all of their divers. If you have always wanted to try scuba diving, let us know and we can put you in contact with Caballito del Caribe; you can do a full certification course or an introductory scuba class. Just don't miss it; there's an incredible underwater world out there!

There are 4 bedrooms: Second floor master bedroom with king size bed, second floor guest bedroom with king size bed; two bedrooms downstairs, both with 2 full size beds.In addition there is a studio upstairs with 2 twin size beds.

Casablanca accommodates 8-14. Rate for 8 guests is $2650. Over 8 guests, add $100 per person.

Holiday, Millennium, Spring, Summer and Winter 2000 Reservations
If you're looking at a holiday get-away this year, we urge you to make your reservations; please make sure you have your flight arrangements in place.

We're now doing reservations for this spring, summer and next winter; we encourage you to make your reservations early so you can get the property that you want.

We're still a bit in limbo on Millennium reservations. Some owners/managers have not yet released properties for those dates. If you are still interested in the Millennium, just drop us an e-mail note and we'll send out information as properties are released.
